Racism in Social Media

Social Media Web plays an important role to get connected with others. But a new threat is Racism. Different race are like to use different type of Social Media Web, when they communicated each other or get connected with them. The internet was once considered a great media to communicate with each other; anytime or even anywhere in the world, it is such kind of a platform that could bring strangers together in a single click of mouse, even across racial boundaries to entire world. But internet users of the same race have recently begun clustering on certain social media websites to communicate with themselves.

Twitter.com, a Micro-blogging website stated that there are huge  traffic from Hispanic and African-American users who share their updates with their own race, most of the time when they use Twitter . These groups now claim, “Twitter” is  about 30% of the site's user base, according to statistics website Quantcast.com.

Meanwhile, the white users claim 90% of US traffic on Pinterest.com & 70% traffic on Facebook.com, while Tumblr.com has seen an over-representation of Asian Americans as of late.

Moreover, Asian-Chinese’s users claim 80% of traffic on Renren.com .They use this site only communicate with their own racial people.

A well known Microsoft researcher, “Danah Boyd” said that though experts once thought the internet would help destroy racial barriers, "all of the divisions that exist in everyday life, including those by race and class, actually re-emerge online".
